Good Morning Parents!
We have had a wonderful week back and we are starting to get back into the swing of things!
This week we started fractions. We are focusing on partitioning shapes and recognizing the parts as fractions (1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/6, 1/8). Try tying this in to discussions at home! This is always easy to do in the kitchen as you cook and prepare for dinner!
We also are getting ready for our big project this nine weeks. I am sure your child has already relayed the information, but they will be designing a donation drive! We will be collecting Legos to send to schools in Haiti. This is an exciting way to bring to life what we are reading in Serafina's Promise and studying through the lives of our historical figures. We are also talking a lot about promises that we make to ourselves.
As a teacher, I always want to instill in my students a desire to be kind and help others. I am hoping this will be a fun way to do that!
Hope you all have a fabulous long weekend!
Ms. Melson
