Good Afternoon,
I would like to start off by thanking all my parents and guardians who met with me this week for parent-conferences. If you were unable to attend, I will be sending your students report card and helpful information in his or her Communications Folder. The following forms are ones I need back and can be sent back in your students folder: Title I information sheet, Conference feedback form, and signature on the cardstock located in the manila envelope stating you received your students report card. If you attended the conference, you completed the report card portion here. This weeks reading fluency song was "Sunglasses at Night" by Corey Hart. To help keep the reading fluency song fresh and fun, I provided the students with sunglasses. They were able to wear these while we sang and worked on our reading fluency. Below is a photo of the students wearing the sunglasses. I introduced soil and informational writing this week. I am going to integrate our historical figure Paul Revere with informational writing and reading. In math, we continued with multiplication and division. I am very excited to get the ball rolling with the multiplication facts. The students have expressed to me how excited they are to start this. In the Communications Folder, there is a permission slip for another field trip we have coming up. The students and I will be going to the High Museum on November 11. This is a free field trip for the students. All you need to do is sign the permission slip and send it back with your student. After meeting with some of the parents, I realized two things. The first is one way all of you can help support your child and myself. I've sent home a "how to solve word problems" and "example" 4-square chart. This is how the students answer ALL word problems including their homework and math test. We do this at least once a week, but the more practice the students have, the higher their math test will be. The second is about Istation. In order for your student to log-in to Istation, you must download the program to your computer. If you go to the website and hit "customer log-in" your child won't be able to complete it. Tomorrow is a dress down day! The students are very excited for this. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact. Best Regards, Ms. Metzger Good Afternoon,
The students and I thoroughly enjoyed our week of no testing! Yay! It was nice to start our week off with a field trip. All third grade teams attended the Tellus Museum. We had a fun time and pictures can be seen below. Our fluency song for this week is Walking on Sunshine. The students love to sing and dance along. We started reading the chapter book Because of Winn Dixie. This will tie into what we are learning this 9 weeks so the students can make different connections. In math we continued with division and multiplication. Speaking of multiplication, I am going to start having the weekly multiplication test next week. Students will be sent home with a set of flashcards on Monday and will take the timed 3-minute test on Thursday. Friday, they will be provided with new flash cards for the following weeks test. Please remember that Parent-Conferences start on Monday. Thank you to those parents who have confirmed appointments with me. If you still haven't, please do so. It's important that I meet with all my parents and guardians to discuss your students grade and behavior in the classroom. Also, the students will be dismissed at 12:15 everyday next week. Happy Thursday! Ms. Metzger Hello Parents/Guardians/Students,
Who is excited that testing is over? What an exhausting week it's been. The students did an excellent job this week! I am very proud and will provide them with a sweet treat tomorrow. This week we focused on fossils! The students spent the week creating fossil sequence games. We will finish up the week playing the games they've created and becoming paleontologist. We also wrote our pre opinion writing. I had students write their opinion on homework. Sometime in the very near future, I would like to start having weekly multiplication quizzes. The students will have 3 minutes to complete the quiz. Once they've mastered all multiplication facts 1-12 I will provide a sundae ice-cream party. I will send home weekly flashcards so the students can practice and be ready for the quiz. We will be leaving at 8:00 AM on Monday for the Tellus Museum! Anyone else stoked about this? This will be an all day field trip so we will have lunch there. Parent conferences are the week of October 19th. Students will be dismissed at 12:15. If you haven't done so, please send back the parent conference sheet. For those I haven't received, I provided your student with another one today in his or her Communication Folder. I sent home a letter with some supplies that are needed in the classroom! Please donate what you can. I will appreciate anything you can give. :) If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me! Sincerely, Ms. Metzger Hello Parents/Guardians,
I hope that you and your family had a relaxing and joyous Fall Break! I have a lot of announcements so please read in full! This week here in 3rd grade was extremely busy. We completed the CoGat, I introduced division, and students completed their narrative writing. There is also information about Parent-Conferences and the field trip at the bottom. The students worked very hard during the CoGat! Because of their hard work, I will bring in a sweet treat for them all tomorrow. Thank you to those parents and guardians who sent in note for their child to read. The students were very excited to see an encouraging note right before testing began. I would like to do this again for their IOWA test which starts Monday. Please send in a hand written note. If you cannot do this or would prefer to send me an email and have me print it out, I can do that. In math this week I introduced division. The students are very excited about this math concept. They are making connections to multiplication and repeated subtraction. On Wednesday I gave out Cookie Crisp cereal as manipulatives for the students to use during the lesson. At the end, they got to eat them. As a friendly reminder, the students will complete their unit one assessment tomorrow. In writing this week the students worked hard to complete the final draft of their narrative writing. First students used a self-edit check list to write their second draft. The next day the students were partnered up to complete the peer-editing checklist. With all the edits, the students are writing their final draft which is due tomorrow as well. This week I really wanted to focus on the word respect. On Monday I did an activity where I let students squeeze out toothpaste. I asked them to try and put it back in the tube. They found out that it was very difficult. I explained how when we are rude and disrespectful to one another, we cannot take that back just like we cannot out the toothpaste back since it’s already out. The students had an “ah ha” moment which was very rewarding to see. As some parents are aware, I am implementing “Apology Slips” and “Better Choices Slip” from this point forward. The students should complete them at home and ask you for your signature. Today in the blue Thursday Communication folders you will find information about Parent Conferences. Please look over the form and send it back with your student tomorrow! For those who still haven’t returned a field trip permission slip, I have given you another one. These are due back on October 5, 2015. I still have one more open spot for a parent or guardian to come. If you can make it, please send in your money with your child’s. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. The best form of communication is email. [email protected] Best Regards, Ms. Metzger |
